Mercedes Schlapp doesn't have an easy gig as the White House strategic communications adviser. It's not an easy task for Mercedes Schlapp as the advisor to strategic communications for the White House. Schlapp, however, has maintained her focus on her job. She works closely with White House political affairs and the legislative team and policy shops and the overall communications operation in order to oversee the rollout of policies. So far, her focus is on topics like school safety, opioids and infrastructure and trade. Schlapp doesn't deal with reporters often in her current position. Her attention in March was when she was named one of the contenders to replace Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job as White House's strategist for communications. Her job is made difficult due to the fact she has to work with a White House president who acts as his director of communications. Additionally, there are numerous legal cases which can disrupt an administration's message strategy, and several Cabinet secretaries entangled in their personal controversies. Schlapp never wavered from her mission, and has worked closely in conjunction with White House policy and political teams. Her focus so far has been on matters such as the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require any contact with journalists. In March, she got some media attention when her name came up as a potential candidate to succeed Hope Hicks in the role of director of communications. There's been some tense fights. Schlapp's allies and Tony Sayegh have begun to fight with the media. Schlapp called Sayegh after the Washington Examiner printed a bad article about him.
